Asia Argento grew up in Rome Italy. Her family is comprised of actors and she has also been working in both fields. Her debut came when she was just nine years old in Sergio Citti's Sogni e bisogni (1985). She played the leading role in Cristina Comencini's Zoo (1988) as well as a part of Michele Savi's 1989 film The Church. Then, in 1989, she played Nanni Moretti's (also directed) child in Red Wood Pigeon. It was with Close Friends (1992), written and directed by Michele Placido, that Asia's career really took off and she was able to move on from playing very young girls, to larger, more sophisticated roles. Cannes International Film Festival received the film well. She has made three films with her dad, Trauma, The Stendhal syndrome, and Phantom of the opera. The Phantom of the Opera was her third film alongside her dad with the other two being Trauma, as well as The Stendhal Syndrome. Her deeply absorbed and intense style of acting was well utilized in Giuseppe Piccioni's Condannato a nozze. Patrice Chereau was the director. Queen Margot as well. She played a role as a physically disabled girl in the film. In 1995, Asia collaborated with Michel Piccoli to produce Peter Del Monte's Traveling Companion, for which she received a prize from David di Donatello. Asia began her career in 1994 as a director she produced two short films: Prospettive (1996), an account of her father's life and her mother, as well as Abel/Asia (1998), a film on the legendary filmmaker Abel Ferrara. The latter won an award from the Rome Film Festival. Asia's debut feature film is Scarlet Diva (2000) in 1999, where she also was the lead actor and wrote the screenplay. In 2001, following the directing of numerous music videos the actress gave birth to the first of her daughters, Anna Lou. In 2002, Asia starred as Jean-Marc Barr's co-star The Red Siren (Olivier Megaton) as well as Vin Diesel was the star in Rob Cohen's thriller The Action. Asian's short stories have been published in some of the most prestigious magazines.
